JULIE
SAKURA
Before joining Lopez, Sakura & Boyd, Ms. Sakura was the staff
attorney for the Eight Northern Pueblos Indian Pueblo Council’s
PeaceKeepers Domestic Violence Program. At PeaceKeepers, Ms. Sakura
represented Native American victims of domestic violence in State
District Court and Tribal Court. Her practice has included family
law, public housing law, enforcement of the Violence Against Women
Act and cases involving issues of Tribal Court Jurisdiction. In addition
to her litigation background, Ms. Sakura has acquired alternative
dispute resolution experience as a mediator.
Ms.
Sakura received her J.D. from the University of New Mexico School
of Law. She is a member of the American Civil Liberties Union and
the Northern New Mexico Chapter of the National Organization for Women.
JESSE A. BOYD
Mr. Boyd was born and raised in Northern New Mexico and has lived
many places across the country and in Europe. He received a certificate
in Natural Resources Law along with his J.D. from the University of
New Mexico School of Law. In the years before law school, Mr. Boyd
owned a successful environmental consulting business in Los Angeles
and managed a record label in New York City. During law school, Mr.
Boyd served as Lead Articles Editor for the Natural Resources Journal
and authored Hip Deep: A Survey of Instream Flow Law from the Rocky
Mountains to the Pacific, 43 NAT. RESOURCES J. 1151.
Mr.
Boyd has worked on a variety of commercial, tort, water, and natural
resource matters. He has been a named author on briefs before the
United States Supreme Court and the New Mexico Supreme Court and he
has assisted lead counsel with oral argument before the United States
Supreme Court.
TODD
M. LOPEZ
Mr. Lopez has over 8 years of experience in natural resources issues
in the Western United States. Mr. Lopez served as Lead Articles Editor
for the Natural Resources Journal at the University of New Mexico
School of Law where he received a certificate in Natural Resources
Law along with his J.D. His current practice includes water rights
evaluation, environmental law, corporate transactions, contract litigation,
real estate and wills and trusts.
Mr.
Lopez’ portfolio includes membership on the Board of Directors
of Siete del Norte, a nonprofit corporation in northern New Mexico,
and contribution as a founding Colleague of the New Mexico Strategic
Leadership Institute, an organization dedicated to long term strengthening
of New Mexico community based advocacy leadership and public policy
campaigns in energy, water, land, forestry and economic development.
